SIDE EVENTS

Whereas The Conference is two days of super curated talks at Slagthuset, the side event program is more of a pick and choose kind of venture. It’s what we call our “off conf” program with a mix of masterclasses, workshops, dinners and social events – all signed, sealed and delivered by speakers from The Conference and brilliant minds from our community. Simply put: The side event program is your alibi to stay in town a bit longer and get to know the Malmö community – or for busy non-conf goers to have a small bite anyhow.

THE PARTY

The Party to bring your friends to and enjoy refreshments, food, dancing, boule and an overall awesome night.

More info

Yes, people. We couldn’t have The Conference 2022 without a good party!

This is your chance to dance and rub shoulders with all the great people and speakers you’ve met during the first day. It’s what The Conference pros refer to as the most important session of them all. And we wouldn’t necessarily disagree – because after all, we’re also of the belief that life’s about people (and the magic that occurs when you encourage them to spend time in each other’s company while some suave DJ spins the hell out of some carefully selected records).

Everyone’s welcome. The Conference participant or not. So bring your friends and join us at Boulebar Folkets Park for some refreshments, food, dancing, boule and an overall awesome night.

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

WORKSHOP: QUESTIONS OF ETHICS IN AI

Navigating the grey zone between utopian and dystopian thinking when designing AI futures.

More info / Register

Current imaginaries of AI are pulled in opposing directions. On the utopian side, AI is being projected as the better half of humankind, evening out the fallibility of human bias and our inability to “know it all”. On the dystopian side, AI will make humans either obsolete or turn humans into overly optimized cogs in a machine.

The reality will most likely lie somewhere in between, in an uncomfortable grey zone of compromises, trade offs and negotiations of values and desired futures. In these negotiations, moral values can be interpreted and actualized in many different ways.

Tradeoffs and compromises can lead to scenarios in which the difference between utopia and dystopia is more one of perspective and individual interpretation, rather than factual reality. This workshop will explore how we can work with the nuances between dystopian and utopian thinking, and balance hopeful envisioning and critical reflection.

Who’s organising? Sonja Rattay, PhD fellow in Human-Centered Computing, Copenhagen University
